Jarashand Akhara is a site of great historical and mythological significance in Rajgir. According to Hindu mythology, it was here that the legendary wrestling battle between Bhima (one of the Pandavas) and Jarashand, the king of Magadh, took place. The battle lasted for 14 days and ended when Bhima, with guidance from Lord Krishna, tore Jarashand in two.
The story of the fight between Bhima and Jarashand is one of the key episodes in the Mahabharata. Jarashand, a powerful ruler, was known for capturing and sacrificing kings. He was a major antagonist, and his defeat was crucial for the Pandavas to proceed with their mission of establishing dharma.
